Warr Acres, Okla. — On Dec. 9, 2025, the Warr Acres Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend that the City Council approve a replat and consolidation of lots at 5720 Northwest 39th Street to allow an AutoZone store to expand its building footprint for additional warehouse and retail space.
Commission members advanced the proposal after applicants and city staff described the practical need to combine multiple historical lots into a single parcel. The applicant said the change is driven by AutoZone’s shift toward larger store-level warehouse space, rather than relying solely on a centralized warehouse network. According to a representative identified in the hearing as Mike, the company plans to “double the size of the store to get some warehouse space there as well.”
City planning staff told commissioners the requested replat does not alter permitted uses on the property but will change how lot lines are drawn. Staff noted the original area was platted in the early 1900s with narrow 25-foot lots; AutoZone currently holds four tax parcels that staff recommended consolidating into a single lot to allow legal expansion. Staff said the commission’s approval will be followed by a City Council hearing next week and a formal filing with the county to change the lot lines. City staff stated they had no objections to the application.
Commission discussion focused on technical and process points: a commissioner asked whether the replat would change how the site functions and was told it would not alter the allowed uses, though the internal layout would include more warehouse area and a revised retail area. Commissioners also asked about neighboring buildings and parking; the applicant said a nearby strip center is being abated for asbestos and is planned to become a parking lot as construction proceeds.
No members of the public spoke during the public hearing. After closing the hearing, the commission moved to forward a favorable recommendation to the City Council; the motion passed unanimously.
Procedural next steps: the planning commission’s recommendation will be considered by the Warr Acres City Council at its next meeting, and if approved the applicant must file the replat with the county recorder to change lot lines and proceed with permitting for construction.
