Villa Park council elects Jordan Wu mayor in 4–1 vote; Frackelton named mayor pro tem

The Villa Park City Council on Monday elected Councilmember Jordan Wu as mayor for 2026 by a 4–1 vote, and unanimously chose Frackelton as mayor pro tem.
The annual peer election was handled by City Manager Steve Franks, who opened nominations. Mark Coolai, a longtime Villa Park resident, used the public comment period to endorse Wu before the nomination process began. "Jordan Wu...has carried much more on his shoulders and met much more to our citizens for years and years," Coolai said during public comment.
Council discussion included a desire among some members to maintain the tradition of the mayor pro tem succeeding to mayor. Councilwoman Miles said she respected Wu’s service but would not support him because of policy differences she described during the meeting: "You and I are very divided on some policy issues ... I’m not able to support you for mayor." Despite that objection, Councilman McBride, Councilman Frackelton, Councilwoman Jones and another councilmember voted to elect Wu.
After the vote, Mayor-elect Wu thanked the council and praised outgoing Mayor Jones for her leadership. He immediately conducted the mayor pro tem nomination, nominating Frackelton. Frackelton accepted, and the council approved the mayor pro tem nomination 5–0.
The council held the vote on the record; the clerk announced the tally. The election concluded with ceremonial remarks and a call for community participation in upcoming city activities.
The council will reconvene for its next regular meeting on Jan. 27, 2026.
