“Right now we currently have a surplus of $1,547,000 as we continue to monitor that,” the operations committee chair (Missus Regan, S7) told the board, attributing much of the surplus to insurance and transportation savings.
The committee recommended replacing tired compressors and air handlers at Lyman Hall and D.A.G. Hammershoelt and doing work on tennis courts, with an estimated total cost of $134,677. The operations chair said the board would authorize Finance Director Barone to transfer the funds from operating accounts at his discretion.
The report also noted work to ensure consistent flag‑flying across schools and potential up‑lighting if flags are flown year‑round; the committee said it would coordinate with town policy because school buildings are town‑owned.
No formal controversy emerged during the discussion; the board accepted the committee’s report and proceeded to executive session and other agenda items.
