SART annual report: Mills County-area team reports increased assault calls and law‑enforcement involvement

A representative of the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) for the 305th Judicial District presented the team's annual report to the Mills County Commissioners Court and said the area has seen an increase in reported assaults over the past two years.
The presenter identified SART’s statutory authority, saying the team was created under the Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 351, and described the team as a collaborative network of district attorneys, law enforcement, medical facilities and victim‑service providers that coordinates response, follow‑up and case status reporting to prosecutors.
Addressing commissioners' questions, the presenter said the most notable change in this year's report was a rise in the number of reported incidents and corresponding requests for forensic nurse examinations and law‑enforcement involvement. "We are receiving more reports, which require more law enforcement involvement and more nurse examinations," the presenter said. She added the SART compiles statistics, maintains a protocol for partners and files the required report with grant‑related compliance documentation.
The presenter said the report was submitted to the commissioners for their review and that staff are available to answer questions; the court acknowledged receipt and had no additional requests at the time.
