County approves $1.3 million in fall 2025 youth activities grants

Hennepin County commissioners approved recommendations Dec. 2 for the fall 2025 Youth Activities Grants, awarding $1,301,924 across 27 grants.
Jennifer Yang, director of Grants Management and Administration, told the board the county received 90 applications during the cycle and used a countywide review process involving staff and community reviewers. The recommendation includes four play-area awards totaling $804,006.40; 10 equipment awards totaling $89,450; four lifeguard-services awards totaling $200,009; and arts and music awards totaling $207,834.
Yang said the awards are expected to benefit more than 12,300 children of different abilities and backgrounds by increasing access to youth programming. Commissioners praised the competitiveness and community impact of the program and approved the grants by voice vote.
Next steps: County staff will complete award agreements and facilitate disbursement and program implementation with grantees.
