Polk County supervisors approve slate of resolutions covering property quitclaims, stream restoration plans, grants and contracts

The Polk County Board of Supervisors on Monday approved a slate of resolutions covering property dispositions, infrastructure project plans, grants and service agreements.
Among the items the board adopted was a resolution authorizing a quitclaim deed to Home Inc. for a vacant parcel at 1621 Forest Avenue in Des Moines and a separate quitclaim in favor of NP Holdings for a vacant parcel at the corner of Southwest High Point Drive and Southwest Orlaver Road in Ankeny. Both deeds were approved after the required public hearings, during which no members of the public spoke.
The board also approved plans, specifications, the form of contract and estimated cost for the Fourmile Creek Stream Restorations Project (ARA 2), authorizing the county to proceed with procurement for that work. A final public hearing was held and the board voted to certify the county’s 2025 weed assessment.
Multiple other resolutions were moved and approved, either individually or collectively. These included: approval of Timberbrook Plat 6 final plat; publication notices for additional stream restoration work and hearings on transfer of Polk County land to the city of Des Moines; a grant of a sewer line easement on county-owned property; agreements related to 2025 sanitary sewer improvements and subdivision inspection services; amended and new agreements with health and shelter providers; acceptance of Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grants; a sponsorship agreement for the Iowa Events Center; Community Development Grant awards including to the Food Bank of Iowa; lead-hazard remediation contracts for two Des Moines properties; and an agreement with Dr. Anissa Froze, MD, for clinical advisory services.
Motions to approve the listed items were moved and seconded during the meeting and carried by roll-call votes recorded in the meeting transcript. Where hearings were required, staff confirmed proof of publication. Several items were bundled and approved together by the board.
The board also received notices including that it will convene as a canvassing board on Jan. 2, 2026, to canvas votes from a special election held Dec. 30, 2025, and a notice of appraisement and timing for appeals related to condemnation for the 2026 neighborhood sidewalk program along Hickman Road. Several intergovernmental consultation notices from nearby cities and the Iowa Department of Transportation were referred to appropriate county departments for review.
The meeting concluded with approval of memoranda of appointments and an adjournment motion. No closed session was called.
