Karen Coleman, speaking at the hearing, described a multi-year succession process and endorsed Coppola: "he comes to us highly recommended... he's been well received by all of you... he understands the investment policy and strategies." Remote commenters at the taxpayers association also expressed support and clarified that the charter position is elected; an interim appointment is consistent with the county charter and the appointee may stand for election when the office is on the ballot.
The board moved and seconded the appointment; the motion passed 4-0 with Supervisor Ferrero absent.
What happens next: Coppola will serve in the interim capacity if Coleman retires; staff will proceed with administrative transition steps and any required public notice about the vacancy and election timing.
