Council renames Community Advisory Committee, narrows scope for youth grants

Mary Armbruster of Community Services explained the Community Advisory Committee wants to become the Community Impact Committee to better describe its role of recommending funding for programs that strengthen resident well‑being; the council approved that change unanimously. Armbruster also presented a proposal to rename the Education Enrichment Committee to the Youth Enrichment Committee to reflect programming focused on young people and out‑of‑classroom services, but council members questioned whether the proposed name would constrain programming for older or out‑of‑school participants.
Council discussion touched on how a name change could affect eligibility, charter language, and funding priorities. A council member noted the city budget allocates roughly $1.2 million across community service programs and enrichment funds and that splitting or broadening program definitions could change how much funding reaches youth programs. The council agreed to send the education committee item back for further consideration and then ultimately voted to adjust the committee—s name to a shorter "Enrichment" option; that motion carried 3–2. Council directed staff to research committee charters and return with guidance.
