City staff reported that bargaining with patrol officers and sergeants produced agreements the council approved on Dec. 15. For patrol officers (International Union of Police Associations), staff said negotiated increases across a three‑year scale were 4%, 4% and 3%; shift differential for second and third shifts was increased from $0.50 to $0.75, SRT members receive a 3% bonus while performing applicable duties, and clothing allowances were adjusted (a $100 net change described in discussion). The contract includes a clause providing that if an officer is killed in the line of duty, the family will receive 100% of accrued sick balance.
For sergeants (ordinance number transcribed in the packet as 70-2025), staff described different multi‑year increases intended to avoid pay compression between top tier patrol officers and sergeants (examples cited as 4.5% in 2026, 4.4% in 2027 and 3.5% in 2028). Council moved, suspended rules and approved both contract ordinances by roll‑call vote.
City staff thanked the negotiating committee and the police chief for their participation in the talks. Council recorded affirmative votes for both approvals.
