Caswell County planning board proposes limits on road-front lots to preserve rural corridors

The Caswell County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday heard an extensive presentation from the Planning Board proposing changes to the county’s subdivision ordinance that aim to reduce strip development along state roads and push new lots into interior, private-road developments.
Jason Wallington, who presented the Planning Board recommendation, said the changes respond to examples the board has seen where many small lots are created along a single corridor. Wallington showed a GIS example and said the proposed rules would retain the current minor-subdivision threshold (0–6 lots) but limit to four the number of those lots that may front on a state-maintained road; any additional lots would have to be interior and accessed by a private road.
