West Bend awards tree-surety contract, authorizes 2026 construction advertising
The Board of Public Works and Common Council on Dec. 15 cleared a slate of street and utility projects for 2026 and approved a parks/forestry contract for tree planting and establishment.

Public Works staff outlined five contracts to be advertised for 2026, including phase 2 of Kilborn Avenue reconstruction (Indiana to Winchester), Heather Drive reconstruction, the annual water utility pavement repair contract, sidewalk installation and repair at prioritized locations, and stormwater improvements and Forge Place completion in the T14 industrial park to support a new business. Staff said previously budgeted water, sewer and engineering funds will cover the associated local costs; some work in the industrial park is expected to be paid from TIF funds.

The council also approved awarding contract 2507 (Tree Surety 2026) to Dan Larson Landscaping of Cedarburg. Mike of Parks and Forestry told the board the base bid is $56,344, the contract includes 12 weeks of irrigation and a 3% contingency for a total project cost not to exceed $68,906; the pre-bid estimate was $85,000. "Dan Larson Landscape has done work for us for a number of years," Mike said, noting Larson's proximity to West Bend reduces mobilization costs and supports a lower bid. Council voted to approve the award.

Separately, the finance committee accepted two park-related donations and the council approved those donations by resolution: a $10,000 final installment from the West Bank Kiwanis Early Risers Foundation for the library rec center project and a $200 donation from the Riverside Disc Golf Club for course development.

All actions were approved by voice vote.
