Newly elected trustees took their oaths of office and signed officer statements at the Spring Independent School District board meeting on Nov. 4. Mary Stinson, Kelly P. Hodges and Justine Durant repeated the statutory oath to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and laws” before the board and signed required officer statements.
After a brief recess for a closed-session discussion of officer qualifications under Texas Government Code §551.074, the board reconvened and opened nominations for officer positions. General Counsel Jody Kinnamer presided over the nominations. Justine Durant was nominated and, after no additional nominations, was elected board president in a unanimous voice vote (7–0). The board then unanimously elected Natasha McDaniels as vice president, Kelly P. Hodges as secretary and Winfred Adams as assistant secretary.
Durant thanked her colleagues following the vote and pledged to continue serving “to the best of my ability.” The board returned to its full agenda after filling the officer roles.
The swearing-in and officer elections were procedural items required after the Nov. 4 election and will not themselves change current policy; any subsequent board decisions will proceed under the leadership selected tonight.
