Public commenters urge faith in public life and highlight strong service-academy interest among local students

Russ Bauer, a retired Navy surface warfare officer from New Bern who helps with congressional service-academy nominations, told the board that Congressman Murphy's office received 32 applicants for service academies this year, up from 11 four years earlier, and said roughly one-third of applicants came from Craven County. Bauer praised the applicants' caliber and urged continued support for students seeking nominations.
Neither comment produced board action, but both were entered into the public record.
