The Select Board on Dec. 9 voted to authorize the purchase of a budgeted fire truck under a cooperative Sourcewell contract, subject to final review and approval by town counsel. Staff and the fire chief reviewed two vendor options: Pierce Manufacturing (longer build time of roughly 50 months) and Rosenbauer, a vendor with which the town has prior experience.
Town staff reported that voters had previously appropriated $1,118,700 for the purchase. The Rosenbauer option presented would allow the town to save roughly $73,000 through an upfront payment discount but requires a 100% prepayment and carries an estimated build time of about 660 days. The board—s motion authorized the purchase pending final contract review to resolve warranty, liability, and delivery terms.
Select Board members discussed operational differences and confirmed the purchase replaces the town—s 2009 Pierce engine. Staff said that, if approved, the town will have a 30-day period after signing to complete legal review and confirm terms.
