"I just wanna encourage people... go get tested today," Dr. Green said, and noted the task force’s presence on Fayetteville State University’s campus offering free testing that day. Dr. Green also pointed to additional community partners that offer HIV testing and related services.
The proclamation cited national HIV figures, saying more than 1,200,000 people in the United States currently live with HIV and that 87 percent of people living with HIV in the U.S. are aware of their status. The board urged continued efforts on prevention, testing, treatment and education.
Dr. Green noted the health department provides testing daily and identified community partners offering services; the transcript lists Methodist and Piedmont Health Services among those partners. The proclamation and the task force’s campus testing aim to raise awareness and reduce stigma, according to the speaker.
