Hanover Area board approves financial and personnel recommendations; hires district solicitor

At its Dec. 4 regular meeting, the Hanover Area School District Board of Education approved a package of financial and personnel recommendations, approved a salary adjustment for a special education supervisor and appointed a new district solicitor.

The board voted to approve three financial recommendation items after a roll-call vote. The transcript records at least one member saying, "I abstain on 1 through 3," and the clerk announced that the motion passed. The board then moved and approved personnel recommendations by roll call; several members noted they were not present for the preceding work session and therefore recorded abstentions on some items.

A specific personnel action approved the reapproved salary adjustment for Alexandra Holmgren, special education supervisor, setting her salary at $85,050 annually, effective Nov. 14, 2025. The motion to approve that salary adjustment was made, seconded and passed by roll call.

The board also approved Christopher Slusser as district solicitor, effective Dec. 3, 2025. The clerk called the roll and multiple members were recorded as voting in favor; the motion passed. One member publicly thanked outgoing counsel (referred to in the transcript as "attorney Buffalo").

Other routine items included approving meeting minutes from Nov. 13, 2025, and Luzerne Intermediate Unit minutes from Oct. 22, 2025, and accepting the superintendent’s report, which included recognition of November’s Student of the Month, Amelia Gowernkiewicz.

The regular meeting adjourned after the board announced its next meeting date, Jan. 13, 2026.
