The Town of Lewisville council approved revisions to the Special Project Review Committee’s facility-use exemption and grant process, adopted a facility-use exemption request for West Forsyth Christian Preschool, and set a temporary moratorium so staff and counsel can implement the changes.
Angie presented resolution 2025-045, a facility-use exemption request from West Forsyth Christian Preschool for the Mary Alice Warren Community Center on April 17, 2026, for an annual gallery hop and silent auction. The committee reviewed the request and recommended approval; council approved the exemption unanimously.
Council then considered resolution 2025-044, which updates the Special Project Review Committee process. Committee members said the revisions were intended to establish clear eligibility guidelines, make the application and review process more transparent, and institute an annual schedule (spring for grant funding requests and fall for facility-use exemptions). As one committee member put it, the changes aim to create "an even playing field for all nonprofits" and reduce staff time spent chasing incomplete applications. Council approved the committee-process revisions.
To allow counsel and staff time to implement the revised application materials and schedule, council temporarily instituted a moratorium on facility-use exemption requests that will end at the Dec.3 briefing. Council members said the moratorium provides time to finalize application deadlines and the timing of budget allocations for approved projects.
