At its December meeting, the Machesney Park Village Board heard community and communications updates, including a year-end toy drive report, holiday decoration winners and the debut of two village marketing commercials.
Mayor Johnson reported the annual Helping Hands toy drive (held Dec. 13) distributed gifts to more than 80 families and over 200 children. The mayor thanked residents, businesses and village staff for donations and volunteer support and singled out local donors Rock River Disposal, McMahon and Associates and Field Passenger. "These gifts will bring holiday cheer to the children and families in our community," the mayor said.
Clerk Chris Galetzis announced the village—s best-decorated-house contest winners by district (addresses listed during the meeting) and extended holiday greetings to residents.
Administration also presented two promotional videos. Management Analyst Kevin Sherman said the first commercial focuses on Machesney Park as an experience and destination using locally filmed footage and local participants; the second highlights retail and shopping options. Sherman noted there was no stock footage used and thanked the videographer for completing the spots.
In staff reports, Finance & HR Director Shannon Hanson presented a quarterly investment report for July 1—Sept. 30 showing accrued interest of $458,687 across 19 interest-bearing accounts for 2025, a decrease of $29,008.35 from the prior year-to-date but an increase of $36,864 from the first quarter. Public Works reported the village's salt shed is roughly halfway complete and invited trustees to arrange a site visit.
The meeting closed with committee updates, including a positive recommendation to forward Resolution 03R26 (a driveway variance) to the Jan. 19 meeting and several community-service notes about Christmas-for-Kids and pantry giveaways.
