Derry school board approves $1.83 million manifest and names assistant director of student services

The Derry Cooperative School District School Board on May 20 unanimously approved its consent agenda, which included the adoption of public and non-public minutes from the May 13 meeting, a manifest totaling $1,833,273.02 and two personnel resignations.
Chair Michael Thill read the consent items, noting that $1,266,273.02 of the manifest covered payroll and $566,918.30 covered general expenses. Board member Jason McLeod moved to approve the consent agenda; Jen Thoreau seconded the motion. The board voted 7-0 to approve the consent agenda.
The board also considered an administrator nomination outside the consent agenda. Laura Powers introduced Christina Kaskowitz as the district’s new assistant director of student services. Kaskowitz, a long-time Derry resident, said she currently works for the Windham School District as a special education building-level director and out-of-district coordinator and will begin in July. Powers described Kaskowitz as a strong advocate for students with experience from pre-K through transition to adulthood. After brief remarks from Kaskowitz and positive comments from board members, the nomination was moved, seconded, and approved 7-0.
No other personnel or financial actions were taken during these votes. The board later adjourned by a 7-0 vote.
