During the Dec. 9 session the South Berwick Board of Assessors presented multiple administrative and value abatements resulting from data corrections and property inspections. The assessor explained that several overvaluations were traced to a field coding error on apartment-over-garage properties and presented revised valuation reports for council action.
The council moved and voted on five abatement recommendations individually. Each motion carried unanimously (5–0) following the assessor's explanation of adjustments, inspections, and applicable homestead exemptions. For example, one administrative correction revised a building classification and reduced assessed value; another case involved a rear lot that was determined to be non-buildable and therefore received no additional land-value abatement.
Council members asked about whether affected property owners were notified; the assessor said the owners were aware of the presentation and could attend hearings. The motions were recorded on the minutes and all carried by roll call.
