Grayslake District 46 appoints Dr. Alfonso Carmona as next superintendent, effective July 1, 2026
Summary
The Grayslake Community Consolidated School District 46 board unanimously approved the appointment and contract of Dr. Alfonso Carmona to begin July 1, 2026. Carmona pledged to focus on academic growth, student and staff well‑being, and community connection during the transition.
The Grayslake Community Consolidated School District 46 Board of Education voted unanimously Nov. 19 to appoint Dr. Alfonso Carmona as the district's next superintendent, with a start date of July 1, 2026.
Board leadership introduced Carmona during the board meeting and asked members to vote on the contract. After the motion and second were called, the board recorded unanimous aye votes and the president welcomed Carmona to the district.
Carmona, who addressed the board and community after the vote, said he was "thrilled to accept the contract to serve as the next superintendent of Grayslake District 46" and thanked board members and his family for their support. He outlined three priorities for his leadership — academic growth, student and staff well‑being, and community connection — and said he planned a listening‑first transition: "I want to hear from our teachers and staff about what they need to thrive. I want to hear from our parents about their aspiration for their children, and most importantly, I want to hear from our students about their dreams and aspirations." (Carmona)
The board president introduced Carmona's family in the audience and the meeting paused briefly for a small celebration. The board also publicly thanked interim superintendent Dr. Glickman for her service during the transition period.
Next steps: The board approved the contract at the public meeting; the district will manage onboarding and transition activities ahead of Carmona's July 1, 2026 start date.
