Pottsgrove School District board elects Jay Strunk president, Bill Thompson vice president; members take oaths

Jay Strunk was elected president of the Pottsgrove School District board and Bill Thompson was chosen as vice president during the board’s annual reorganization meeting on Dec. 2, 2025. Newly elected members were sworn in before the board moved into officer elections.

The reorganization meeting followed the Pennsylvania Public School Code procedures described by district solicitor Brian, who told the board it must seat new members and elect officers for the coming year. After no public comments were offered on the agenda, the board nominated and approved Jay Strunk as temporary president and then proceeded to seat new members and administer oaths. Several new members repeated the oath of office and were congratulated by the chair.

With the temporary president presiding, the board opened nominations for president. Strunk was nominated, the motion was seconded and the board approved him by voice vote to serve a one-year term. The board later nominated Bill Thompson for vice president; Thompson was approved by voice vote for a one-year term and was congratulated by colleagues.

The board also handled several standing representative appointments tied to the reorganization process. By voice vote the board approved Thompson to remain on the Western Career and Technology Center joint operating committee for a three-year term, reappointed Tanya Taylor as the district’s Montgomery County Intermediate Unit legislative liaison for one year, and approved Patty (listed in materials variously as "Patty Grama" and "Patty Grimm") to serve as the district’s Pennsylvania School Boards Association liaison for one year.

The meeting leader reminded members to submit committee preferences by Jan. 1 so staff can finalize committee rosters ahead of the Jan. 12 board meeting. The reorganization meeting then moved into the district’s regular business agenda.
