The Fremont County Board of Commissioners approved recommended promotions in the building‑maintenance unit and later set salaries for the newly promoted positions.
Following interviews for the maintenance manager role, Speaker 3 reported that the panel recommended hiring John Harmelink as building maintenance manager and promoting Jay Gunch to assistant building maintenance supervisor to provide coverage when the manager is unavailable. Speaker 3 said the interviewees "demonstrated a much better picture of what the issues are" and cited improved documentation and preventative maintenance practices.
Commissioners moved and seconded the promotions and approved them by voice vote. Later in the meeting the board considered salary amounts and -- after discussion and a motion -- set the manager salary at $65,000 and the lead supervisor salary at $51,000; the motion passed and the commission adjourned later in the agenda.
Commissioners noted the county's staffing challenges for building maintenance and the need to finalize salary ranges after reviewing budget implications. The board directed county staff to complete the salary paperwork and confirm pay ranges in the county payroll system.
