The Brockton Finance Committee voted Dec. 1 to recommend a $100,000 appropriation to cover personal‑service costs tied to a one‑year collective‑bargaining agreement with the firefighters’ union.
Mayor Robert Sullivan urged the committee to support the order and described the contract as a fair agreement reached in good faith. CFO Troy Clarkson told members the memorandum of agreement was in the meeting packet, that the contract begins Jan. 1 and that the negotiated wage rise is 1.5 percent. Clarkson said the fire budget currently contains vacancies that will largely fund the increase and characterized the deal as financially sustainable while the city undertakes longer‑range financial planning.
Councilors had no further questions and the committee voted to recommend the appropriation favorably to the full City Council. The order will be on the council agenda for final approval.
