Finance Committee backs two mayoral appointments to aging and cemetery boards

The Brockton Finance Committee on Dec. 1 voted to recommend two mayoral appointees to the City Council. The committee moved both nominations — for a Council on Aging alternate and a cemetery trustee — forward with favorable recommendations.
Faye Sweetin’s nomination to the Brockton Council on Aging was read into the record by the clerk. Invited to speak, Faye Slayton described more than 30 years of volunteer work and told the committee she hoped serving as an alternate would provide “another outlook and opportunities to serve our community.” Councilor McCastro said he “wholeheartedly support[s] her appointment” and the committee recommended the nomination favorably.
The committee also recommended Peter Gaskins Jr. for the Cemetery Board of Trustees for a five‑year term ending in November 2029. Mayor Sullivan and councilors described Mr. Gaskins as a Ward 4 resident with family ties to cemetery care; Mr. Gaskins said his background and interest in cemetery history make the position “definitely up my alley” and he looks forward to serving with other trustees. The motion to recommend his appointment was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Both items will go to the full City Council for final confirmation at the next council meeting.
