Story County amends urban renewal map to remove two decommissioned wind turbines

The Story County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 25 approved an amendment to Chapter 8 of the county code that removes references to two demonstration wind turbines that staff said have already been removed from properties near Nevada.
County staff member Leanne told the board the change is “quite simply, this is removing the references to 2 turbines that have physically been removed, from the properties that are listed as tax identification numbers,” and recommended waiving second and third consideration because no public feedback had been received.
The board opened and closed the public hearing with no members of the public speaking. An unidentified board member moved to approve first consideration and to move second and third considerations; the motion was seconded and carried with Supervisors Merkin, Basel and Heddens recorded as voting aye.
The amendment applies to the county’s urban renewal chapter and removes now-obsolete references to demonstration turbines located in the township identified in staff materials as “Grama Township,” southwest of the city of Nevada. Staff said the turbines had already been physically removed from the properties listed in the ordinance. The county recommended the procedural waiver because there was no public comment on the change.
The board’s action completes the local ordinance update process for the items addressed in the amendment; staff will finalize ordinance paperwork and publish the updated code sections per county procedure.
