Tomball ISD honors student-led Eyes First, donors and fall athletic teams

Tomball ISD trustees used their Nov. 10 workshop to recognize several community partners and student teams. Superintendent Dr. Martha Salazar Zamora introduced the honors and turned the podium over to local officials and coaches.
Landon B. Reed, Harris County Precinct 3 director of community outreach, presented a proclamation recognizing Eyes First, a student-founded nonprofit started by Hugh and Caden to assemble eye-care kits and provide dry-eye education to seniors. The students told trustees the idea began after a mission trip to Fiji and evolved into local and international distribution of kits containing eye drops and educational flyers.
Dr. Michael Webb and Carrie Williams then acknowledged fundraising tied to Special Olympics programming. Webb and district staff credited the Roba Kisner Foundation and Scott Blanks for an $11,000 gift that will benefit Special Olympics activities in the Tomball area.
The board also honored fall athletic teams. Athletic director Chris Scott and coaches described Tomball Memorial Girls Varsity Water Polo’s 24-game season (293 goals) and district and regional achievements, and Tomball High’s boys water polo team’s undefeated district season and individual district awards. Tomball ISD also recognized tennis players for back-to-back district championships and strong academic performance among team members.
The recognitions were ceremonial; no board action was required. Trustees said the awards reflect community support and successful student programs as the district prepares for the upcoming regular meeting.
