At the Nov. 19 meeting local hotel operators reported uneven weekend demand and a cautious outlook for late-year group business.
"It wasn't the best of weekends," Todd said about the Oregon game, noting that "2 of my 3 hotels filled on Saturday" and "1 filled on Friday," but that overall there remained unsold rooms. Another commission member said roughly "12 to 13% of our rooms still [were] vacant on a big game," signaling weaker-than-expected event travel from some regions.
Members said December historically favors transient bookings and that the commission expects to "close the year pretty strong" if transient demand holds. Staff and members discussed the need to continue sales outreach and monitor upcoming events that could generate group business.
