The Menands Village Board approved a contractor quote to grind and roughen sidewalk surfaces identified as slippery, a measure staff said is intended to reduce slip hazards this winter. Village staff (Speaker 6) described a diamond-tip grinder cup the contractor would use, said the work would take roughly two days and said the contractor would not be able to treat very small, constrained 'red dot' spots because of equipment width limits.
Staff reported the cost at approximately $4,000; the board discussed scheduling around weather and a potential mobilization charge, then approved the work after a motion and second. Staff said crews will clean up the site after the work is completed.
Trustees asked that the contractor address the most problematic locations first and coordinate scheduling with village staff so residents would receive notice in advance. The village did not provide a contractor name in the meeting record and no written contract text was read into the record during the meeting.
