ZBA approves Planet Fitness sign variance at Bridal Broadway plaza

The Village of Depew Zoning Board of Appeals granted an area-variance enabling Planet Fitness to install two wall-mounted building signs at 5175 Bridal Broadway Road, Unit 14.
Neil Thigpen, representing Skyway Outdoor Inc. on behalf of Planet Fitness, told the board the proposal replaces a former Big Lots sign. "Our best estimation is that sign was about 90 square feet. The one we're proposing is about 81 square feet," Thigpen said, adding that there is no additional electrical work required.
The board reviewed the six New York area-variance criteria and noted that the 100-square-foot sign met ordinance requirements while the 81-square-foot sign required relief. Member Menard moved to grant the variance and Member Galvin seconded. The roll-call vote was Galvin Yes, Overholt Yes, Menard Yes, Yarbrough Yes and Acting Chairman Delaney Yes; the motion passed 5–0.
No substantive objections from code or legal were recorded, and the board closed the hearing on this application before moving on.
