Vice Chair Swanson moved to bring the District 8 interview process forward; the motion was seconded and, after a roll‑call‑style confirmation of in‑person members, carried with six members voting in favor. A remote board member, Mister Hershey, had audio issues and his participation was handled separately.
Staff told the board that with a 30‑minute interview slot and short breaks the interview day would start at 8:30 a.m. and could run until about 8 p.m. To reduce overall time, the board agreed to shorten breaks from 10 minutes to five and stressed adherence to strict time limits. The chair said candidates’ introductions would be accommodated within the 30‑minute slot and noted that interviews must end on time.
Board members debated whether to ask every candidate the same questions or rotate them to cover more topics. Several members, including Miss Rice and Miss Edmonds, argued for identical questions to ensure fairness; Vice Chair Swanson suggested an elimination round to pare the field. The board ultimately decided to provide the final question set to candidates 24 hours before interviews and to give every candidate the same questions.
Chief information staff outlined three technical options for live broadcasting and recording: 1) livestream interviews and deliberation, 2) record interviews and post them later while livestreaming deliberation, or 3) not record or stream interviews. The board discussed staff time required to cover a long day; the CIO said control‑room staff could be scheduled in shifts.
The board also directed staff to clarify logistics for candidates arriving early and to emphasize punctuality. Two applicants were flagged as living outside District 8 and will not be part of the verified pool.
The scheduling decision aims to complete interviews in a single day, allow deliberation afterward and follow the board’s fairness guidance for candidate treatment.
