North College Hill — The City Council on Oct. 20 suspended the usual reading schedule and unanimously adopted Resolution 19-20-25, accepting the amounts and rates determined by the Budget Commission and authorizing the city’s tax levies to be certified to the county auditor.
Council members said Hamilton County provided the required certification late, creating an urgent window to act before an Oct. 24 deadline. "We received this very late in September," Councilmember Miss Duxton said, explaining the compressed timetable; after a roll call the motion to suspend second and third readings passed unanimously and the council then voted 7–0 to adopt the resolution.
The resolution accepts county-determined levy amounts and authorizes the city administration to certify them to the county auditor. Council members stressed this step is a procedural acceptance of county figures for collection and not a final appropriation of how those funds will be spent, which will be addressed in subsequent budget deliberations.
Councilmember Miss Chichester and Miss Gaston moved and seconded the suspension-and-adoption sequence on the floor. During public comment and later discussion, some residents and a council member noted the item had not appeared in the online packet before the meeting; administration and finance staff said the county’s late delivery and an accompanying extension letter constrained posting time.
What happens next: Administration will proceed with the certification to Hamilton County so the levies are included in 2026 collections; council indicated line-item appropriation decisions will come through the regular budget and finance process in future sessions.
