Fairfax council meeting roundup: bills, bridge repairs, zoning first reading and resolution approved

The Village of Fairfax council on Feb. 16 handled routine business, approved several administrative items and heard updates on village maintenance and upcoming infrastructure work.

After roll call the council approved the bills and bank reconciliation for January and accepted minutes from the Jan. 19 and Jan. 26 meetings. The mayors monthly report for January, listing $4,599.94, was presented and approved by council.

Under communications the clerk read an email from Ron Combs that publicly thanked the Fairfax Police Department for recent patrols amid vehicle break-ins. Several council members and residents also praised the maintenance department for snow clearing on Watterson; the administrator said future communicator notices and Facebook postings will be used to alert residents when operations are planned.

In the administrators report Alan described a planned temporary repair on Watterson Bridge wing wall expected to begin next week, including Duke Energy rewiring, temporary metal/lag wall work by Cruise Construction and subcontractor Scherzinger, and short-term traffic detours; the first phase was described as lasting about a week, with a permanent poured-concrete wall planned later in the summer.

Council gave a first reading of Ordinance 7-2021 to adopt a revised zoning map; the second reading is scheduled for the March meeting. It also adopted Resolution R-1-2021 authorizing drawing warrants and payments for amounts $3,000 or more pursuant to a then-and-now certificate under Revised Code section 5705.41(d)(1).

The council adjourned after receiving no further business.
