The Wayne County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted Resolution 2025-38 on Dec. 2, 2025, honoring the life and public service of Commissioner George Wayne Aycock Jr.
Former chair Barbara Aycock read the resolution aloud, which traces Aycock’s life (born March 14, 1946, in Wayne County), notes his longtime service on local boards and as an at-large commissioner, and records family survivors. The resolution cites Aycock’s decades of community involvement, including service on the Wayne County Planning Board, Northwestern Wayne Sanitary Water District, Wayne Community College Board of Trustees, and many years with the Nahunta Fire Department.
After the reading, a commissioner moved to approve the resolution; the board approved it by unanimous voice/hand raise.
The resolution will be entered into the county record; commissioners offered condolences to the Aycock family during board comments.
