Board adopts $123.1 million revised budget, approves support-staff and teacher tentative agreements

Treasurer Donahue moved adoption of the revised budget for fiscal 2025-26, which the resolution described as the district's general appropriations for the fiscal year. The board recorded a non-homestead property tax rate of 17.6749 mills and the resolution appropriated $123,113,043 to the general fund. The motion was moved, supported and carried by the board (the chair reported the motion carried by a show of hands, 5-0).
The board then approved the tentative agreement with the Michigan Education Support Personnel Association (MESPA 2) covering instructional aides and library technicians. The superintendent recommended approval as ratified by membership; the motion was moved, supported and carried (reported 5-0).
Members next considered a tentative agreement with the Waterford Education Association (WEA) covering teacher contract language, longevity pay beginning at year 10, increased sick days and other negotiated items. The motion to approve the WEA tentative agreement was moved and supported; the transcript records an abstention by Member Donahue and that the motion carried with that abstention. Board members and bargaining representatives also noted changes including a donation sick bank, reinstated bereavement days and improved pay categories for class overages and expanded schedule-b and extracurricular stipends.
No further board action on budget or labor items was recorded at the meeting. The administration said a recommendation to adopt or to award associated implementation actions would follow normal administrative processes.
