Inspection finds no widespread water intrusion behind county administration facade; written report pending

County staff reported results of an interior inspection of the administration building facade near the elections area and said findings were better than expected. Savannah told commissioners that inspectors did not find evidence of broad water intrusion at the foundation or the back of the front facade.
Staff said one piece of the facade had fallen earlier and that inspectors believe residual wood debris left during prior window replacements may have caused localized moisture and the isolated failure. "It seemed like whatever repairs have been done in the past were from replacing the windows...they found some wood debris back there...it did cause and maintain moisture behind there, but it didn't affect the foundation," Savannah said.
Staff will provide a written inspection report and said the results could lower next year’s budget estimate for facade work. Commissioners suggested adding a protective apron or other permanent cover near the affected doorway to improve safety until permanent remediation occurs.
What happens next: Staff will circulate the written inspection report to the board and adjust budget estimates as appropriate.
