Tim Staub described the parcel as a remnant found when the city cleaned up the right-of-way along Charles Martin (formerly Ben Shapin Street) and said "as it is a developable lot, the city is now just performing the process to zone it." Michael Davita, assistant director of planning, told the committee the action reflects a long-standing street dedication issue and enables the city to make the parcel available for development.
No members of the public signed up to speak for or against the bill. A committee member moved that Bill 73-25 be sent to the Committee of the Whole with a favorable recommendation; the motion carried with five ayes. The chair said the bill would go that evening with a favorable recommendation to the Committee of the Whole.
The measure will be considered by the Committee of the Whole during the evening session.
