The Town of Sellersburg council voted Tuesday to adopt a 2026 salary ordinance and to amend this year’s salary orders to reallocate certain pay lines and permit an additional Streets & Sanitation hire.
The council approved Ordinance 2025‑OR‑024, the town’s 2026 salary ordinance, after a first reading and a motion to waive the second reading. Council members said the changes reflect ranges discussed during prior budget workshops and adjustments tied to recruitment and retention priorities.
Separately, the council adopted Ordinance 2025‑ORD‑025 to amend the 2025 salary orders. Under the amendment the council shifted some percentage pay previously charged to the parks fund into the Streets & Sanitation (S&S) fund, removed the remaining salary allocation for the parks superintendent for the remainder of 2025, and increased the authorized headcount in S&S from four to five to allow hiring a temporary/ permanent replacement. Town manager Charlie said the changes do not immediately increase payroll costs but permit the town to begin the hiring process to backfill a staffer who is on short‑term disability.
Council discussion clarified that the parks superintendent position was being zeroed out from the salary orders for the rest of the year and that the parks board may revisit whether to reestablish that role in the future. Charlie said he has been performing parks-related duties tied to a federal Land and Water Conservation grant and would continue to provide support in the interim.
Votes on both ordinances were taken by voice vote and approved by the council.
Next steps: the ordinances are in effect as adopted; staff said they will proceed with the hiring process for the additional S&S position and the parks board may consider reestablishing the superintendent role later if requested.
