Students urge changes to selected high‑school play, administration says issue nearly resolved

Two high-school students raised concerns during public comment about the selection process for the 2025 theater production, saying the chosen title limits ensemble roles and dance opportunities and that delays in selection have reduced rehearsal time and caused participant attrition.
"My main concern is the feature roles will not allow everyone in our department to have a proper experience," said Sophia Miller, a senior and member of the student leadership club, who said the apparent lack of ensemble roles and reduced choreography could exclude students who rely on ensemble parts or who are nervous about solo roles.
Katana Mullins, a senior and member of the drama club, supported those concerns, noting that prior productions with larger ensembles provided more opportunities for students to participate and develop performance skills.
A district administrator responded that the students’ concerns had been heard, the principal had discussed the matter with the students, and the issue was "99.9%" resolved, pending a few remaining items. The administrator said some decisions were still pending but suggested the administration expected to move forward in a way that addressed the students’ concerns.
The exchange was part of the public-comment portion of the meeting; the board did not take formal action on the production selection at this session.
