Riley School students showcase safety-patrol program; high-school rep gives monthly update

Riley School students described how the school’s safety-patrol program helps greet students, escort kindergarteners to aftercare, hold doors and model behavior for younger pupils during a presentation to the South Plainfield School District board.
"My favorite part about safety patrol is being a role model for all the younger kids below us," said a Riley School student during the presentation, which included a short video and remarks from approximately 20 students recognized by staff.
A Riley School staff member told the board the patrols make a “positive impact on our climate and culture” and introduced the students by name for recognition. Board members applauded the students and offered personal congratulations.
Following that presentation, the high-school student representative, Sofia, outlined fall athletics and arts accomplishments, upcoming testing and support activities, and student-led community initiatives. She noted that several teams advanced to state tournaments, seniors had been fitted for graduation regalia, and the high school will offer a free SAT pre‑boot camp on Dec. 6. Sofia also promoted club activities and an annual toy drive to benefit the South Plainfield Office of Social Services.
Board and district leaders encouraged families to take advantage of free breakfast offerings throughout November and reminded the public of upcoming performances and community events, including the annual tree-lighting and parade on Nov. 30.
The presentation and student report were ceremonial and informational; no formal board action was taken on the safety-patrol program itself at the meeting.
