The approved schedule sets new‑construction and addition fees at $0.75 per square foot and includes a $25 application fee and separate forms for zoning compliance and new construction; smaller projects may use a shorter form with flat fees. Proponents said the change avoids penalizing residents who choose higher‑quality materials (for example, copper gutters), and makes permitting simpler for routine work.
Council discussed edge cases (how to measure square footage for windows, basements and garages) and clarified that additions and basements are included in the calculation. The fee change passed on a unanimous voice vote and was set to take effect Jan. 1.
Staff will implement updated application forms and guidance for permit applicants before the effective date.
