Oak Park’s City Council voted unanimously Dec. 1 to approve a joinder to a health‑services agreement with Marathon Health LLC for the city’s employee wellness center.
Human-resources director Carla (last name not specified in the record) told council the change is expected to expand services, increase operating hours (starting at about 40 hours per week), dispense prescribed medications at no cost to participating employees and yield immediate savings estimated at $11,000–$12,000 annually. Staff also said the new provider has centers across the metropolitan area, which could allow employees who live outside Oak Park to access care nearer to home.
City Manager Eric Tungate said the program helps contain health-care costs and is an important retention tool for city employees. Council members asked about potential expansion to retirees and the ability to add other municipalities; Carla said a roughly 25‑mile radius could allow inclusion of retirees and that nearby cities, including Berkeley, have expressed interest in joining.
Council member Stephanie Crawford moved approval; Mayor Pro Tem Julie Edgar seconded. The motion passed on a unanimous roll call.
Next steps: staff will execute the joinder and communicate enrollment and operational changes to employees and partner municipalities.
