The City Council on Oct. 27 voted unanimously to approve a draft letter of concern to the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services about the management and funding approach for the Winnipesaukee River Basin program.
City Manager Kurt explained the letter expresses municipal concerns and supports moving forward with a locally driven legislative service request (LSR) to address how communities pay into the basin program. The council approved the motion to send the letter and authorized the city manager to sign it on behalf of the city; the vote was 6-0.
Councilors noted the advisory board for the Winnipesaukee River Basin has been active and that the letter is intended to clarify the city—s concerns to state officials and legislative partners. The letter will be circulated to the other basin communities as they consider similar actions.
