Osceola County board adopts zoning amendment, waives further readings

Osceola County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 14 approved Ordinance No. 65, an amendment to the county's 2013 zoning ordinance, and voted to waive the second and third readings so the ordinance could take effect immediately.

County staff told supervisors that no additional public comments were received after the public hearing notice. "When I did the public notice for this, the ordinance was published full entirety the ordinance was published in the paper," a county staff member said during the hearing.

Supervisor Lauren moved to approve the ordinance on first consideration, with support from Schulte. The board then considered and approved a motion by Schulte to waive the second and third readings and adopt the ordinance the same day. Supervisors recorded 'aye' votes during the session; the board announced approval on the record.

The board's action followed the public hearing portion of the meeting. County staff reiterated the process for waiving readings and confirmed that full text of the ordinance had been available in the published notice. No public speakers spoke during the hearing and staff stated they had ‘‘received no further comments’’ on the ordinance.

What happens next: with the readings waived, the ordinance will be treated as adopted by the board; implementation and any administrative steps will be handled by county staff as required.
