Council announces countywide homelessness forum Nov. 12 with cross-agency panel

The Human Relations Committee will host a community forum on homelessness on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium; the panel will include city police and fire, the housing authority, a county commissioner and community service providers and will be videotaped for public access.
Councilor Patrick Wood, chair of the Human Relations Committee, announced at the Oct. 27 meeting that the committee has scheduled a countywide community forum on homelessness for Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Laconia High School auditorium.
Wood said the panel will include representatives from the Police and Fire departments, a Housing Authority representative (Kathy Bowler), mental-health or recovery navigation providers, county commissioner Peter Spanos and business community members such as Cara Chase (Legacy New Hampshire) and Paul Lang. Lakes Region Public Access will videotape the event.
Wood said the goal is to "listen and learn," give panelists a short presentation about what they do and open the floor to public questions and suggestions for solutions. He asked the council and staff to publicize the event broadly because homelessness affects the wider county, not only the city of Laconia.
The forum is intended as community outreach and information gathering; no formal council action was taken beyond the announcement.
