Jackson County DOT presents year-end budget amendment and semiannual report; committee forwards amendment and fleet purchase to full board

Angie walked commissioners through capital and grant projects (Blackman, Moscow Road, Sutton Road, urban paving), JC DOT-funded 100%-funded projects (about $600,000), and force-account chip-seal work of 10.4 miles.
“We did 75.71 miles this year,” Angie said, and added the local road list totaled about $7,400,000. She also described maintenance responses (including a Franklin Street sewer repair that JC DOT completed when ownership was unclear) and reported PASER ratings improving over recent years.
During discussion, commissioners asked about a long-closed Dixon Road; Angie explained it is a local road with matching requirements and permitting issues tied to riverbank erosion that make repairs costly and dependent on funding and permitting.
Separately, Angie requested approval to purchase six Chevrolet Silverado crew-cab pickup trucks for the department’s fleet and stated a purchase total in the staff remarks (transcript lists "$305,952,000"). Staff noted attachments for accessories had not been uploaded to the board docket and said they would provide missing documents before the next meeting. Commissioners asked why a Grand Rapids dealer is listed; staff explained the purchase is made through the state contract that any dealer may bid on and the award goes to the winning dealer under that contract.
Chair solicited motions on both the budget amendment and the fleet purchase; the committee voted unanimously to forward both items to the full board with recommendations of approval.
Next steps: JC DOT will supply missing attachments and the full board will consider the budget amendment and vehicle purchase at its next meeting.
