Corsicana ISD updates Regional Day School Program for the Deaf, cites two‑vehicle purchase

Corsicana ISD staff updated the Board of Trustees Oct. 22 on the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf (RDSPD), which the district serves as fiscal agent and which provides both direct (1:1) and consult services to students across a wide region of member districts.
Miss Howe (Speaker 6) told trustees the RDSPD serves 65 students in direct services, 51 consult students and 14 who are bused into Corsicana for instruction. "We are definitely one of the larger RDSPDs in the state," Speaker 6 said, describing a service region that can span about three and a half hours end‑to‑end and includes multiple member districts.
Speaker 6 said the program maintains a strong fund balance (just under $200,000 before recent purchases) and described the recent purchase of two Corollas to ensure reliable regional transportation without drawing on the CISD white fleet. The vehicles were described as costing "right, kind of right at 48,000" for both, according to the transcript. Staff said the vehicles will reduce very early pickup times for young children and free district vehicles for other uses.
The RDSPD also offers community sign‑language classes on Tuesdays to increase inclusion for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Staff emphasized transparency in tuition billing and said the program bills member districts only for entitlements not covered by the program, keeping RDSPD rates among the lowest in the state.
Trustees did not record any formal direction beyond acknowledging the update; staff indicated they will continue management board meetings and report back as needed.
