Edinburg CISD reports small net enrollment decline, improved attendance

District staff reported a net district‑wide enrollment of about 32,546 students as of Oct. 24, 2025, a year‑to‑date drop of roughly 796 students; staff said attendance percentages have improved compared with last year and several elementary campuses have already exceeded prior peak enrollment.
District staff presented the ECAZ enrollment report to the board and described both declines and pockets of growth.
Freddy Martinez, presenting the enrollment counts, reported elementary enrollment counting roughly 16,202–16,212 students, middle schools at 6,489 and high schools at 9,845, for a district total of 32,546 — a net difference of about minus 796 students compared with the prior year. Martinez said about 10 elementary campuses have exceeded last year’s peak counts, with smaller numbers of middle and high campuses showing gains.
The superintendent and trustees noted that attendance percentages have increased and praised campus‑level efforts to identify and re‑engage students who have left. Martinez said district staff are supporting principals with reports and training to be more data‑aware and to track students more quickly.
What’s next: Staff said they are still reconciling about 150 returning minors and continue to provide principals with tools to identify and follow up on students who have exited the district. Trustees had no further motions beyond accepting the report.
