Edinburg CISD details roofing, drainage, chiller and CTE projects across the district

District facilities leaders presented a multi‑item construction update that included roofing overlays, new athletic multi‑use buildings, drainage improvements, chiller replacements and a CTE renovation.
Jovi Ariel, the director for facilities, listed project teams, contractors, costs and schedule information: Canterbury Elementary reroofing (architect CG5; contractor SLR Building Contractors; construction cost $1,359,000; ~90% complete; notice to proceed Aug. 4), Cavazos reroofing (complete; punch list pending), DL Garza and Transportation building improvements (engineer ERO; contractor Air Cool Tech; construction cost $1,195,653; ~10% complete), and district multi‑use athletic buildings (CG5 architect; SLR contractor; separate $550,357 lines totaling $2,201,428; notices issued Aug. 15) with Edinburgh High School foundations and framing underway.
On mechanical systems, Ariel said the Harwell Middle School chiller replacement (engineer Sigma; contractor Continental Refrigeration; total $1,166,000) has new chillers online and the district was finishing DDC controls and test/balance work. For stormwater mitigation, the Edinburgh North drainage project (engineer SDI; contractor Synergy Development; cost $741,629) includes a large detention pond and a 36‑inch reinforced concrete pipe tie‑in to the drainage district; Ariel noted partners including Precinct 4 and the Hidalgo County Drainage District had contributed manpower and funding toward the project.
Ariel said the CTE Barrientes renovation (architect PDK; contractor NM Contracting; cost $8,559,965) is about 40% complete with interior work including kitchens, labs and mechanical systems ongoing and a targeted SASA completion in July 2026.
Trustees asked staff to continue providing regular project reports, to coordinate site visits and to provide documentation such as drone video and punch‑list status for completed items. One trustee requested ribbon‑cutting and public‑relations opportunities so the community can see progress. Several trustees emphasized inspecting roof work around HVAC units and verifying architects are performing daily inspections.
