Avison said drafts were adjusted to open with more empathic language, to clarify temporary memorial rules (display in supervised areas until the funeral or up to one week, after which items are given to the family), and to discourage permanent memorials unless an event or loss had a significant and lasting impact on the broader school community. The draft also added recommendable low‑cost memorial activities (memory banners, books) and clarified that only the class, club or activity of which the deceased was a member may propose that specific commemorative event. Board members supported the revisions and agreed to move the draft to third reading on the consent agenda.
No formal vote on these policies was taken tonight; both were advanced to third reading for final action at a future meeting.
